Why heavy Instagram DM users drift to WhatsApp and LinkedIn, and the three features that would keep them
Frequent Instagram DM users, both casual chatters and creators running business conversations, keep losing information they have already been sent. There is no search inside a conversation, no way to save an important message, and no document attachment. When a thread starts to matter, people move it to WhatsApp or LinkedIn, which pulls them away from Instagram's core communication feature.
A competitive comparison against WhatsApp and LinkedIn produced five concrete gaps: in-conversation search, a favourites tab for priority contacts, message saving, document attachment, and easier message deletion. Analogical thinking about how each competitor already solves the gap drove the brainstorm. RICE ranked in-conversation search top at 13.5, document attachment at 12 and message saving at 9, and all three got wireframes. Metrics cover search click-through, session retention after finding information, file attach rate and save rate.
Worth stealing

The transferable bitCompetitors are used as an idea source without being copied wholesale: each gap is named as a user job first, then matched to how another platform handles it. The latency guardrail on DM delivery is worth stealing too, since search indexing is exactly the kind of addition that quietly degrades the thing people came for.
