Empowering Women Investors with AI-Powered Plain Language Explanations

An Explain it Simply layer that turns investment app jargon into plain language for women investors

Meaningful AI Improvement FinTech

The problem they went after

Investment apps talk in jargon, and the women investors in this research came away overwhelmed and short on confidence. They leaned on family members to make decisions, and could follow basic return calculations but not charts, tickers, or fund movements. That leaves a large underserved segment inside the product without the clarity to act on their own.

What they actually did

The proposal is an AI Clarity Engine embedded in the app under an Explain it Simply label. Tapping any stock or fund returns a plain-language explanation of why it moved, what happened in the portfolio that week, how close the user is to a personal goal, and how consistent their investing has been. Explanations are tuned to the user's risk profile and grow more sophisticated over time. Two surfaces carry it: a Stock Explanation Modal and an Activity Clarity screen.

What you can take from it

Worth stealing

  • Explanations tailored to the user's risk profile
  • Stock Explanation Modal plus Activity Clarity screen
  • Consistency score turns habit into a visible number
  • Metrics tied to abandonment and SIP completion

Building AI explanation features for users intimidated by a product's own vocabulary

The transferable bitAn AI feature grounded in a specific comprehension gap beats a general add-AI impulse. Research established exactly what these users could and could not read, and every explanation type maps back to one of those gaps. The metrics follow the same logic: Explain usage, investment abandonment, SIP completion, retention.
